Check out the AWESOME new music video by the band OK Go! It completely directed around a Rub Goldberg Machine with the help from Syyn Labs. You can literally watch it about 50 times and notice a new item– very cool!
Today marks the beginning of the month Ala, and the Baha’i 19 day fast! For myself, I can say that I can be quite impulsive, and self discipline is an everyday struggle. Among being one of the biggest obligations as a Baha’i, the fast is the biggest test of the year for me. I think it really helps to recollect, and deepen from the very beginning on why exactly we do fast, and what it’s main purpose is.
Therefore, I found some quotes pertaining to the time of fast:
“The nineteen-day fast is a duty to be observed by all. All should abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. This fast is conducive to the spiritual development of the individual. The Greatest Name should be read every day.”
(Abdu’l-Baha, Tablets of Abdu’l-Baha v1, p. 56)
“Regarding the nineteen-day fast; its observance has been enjoined by Bahá’u'lláh upon all believers, once they attain the age of fifteen and until they reach seventy. Children of all countries, nationalities and classes, who are fifteen years old are under this obligation. It matters not whether they mature later in one country than in another.”
(Compilations, Lights of Guidance, p. 233)
“O God! As I am fasting from the appetites of the body and not occupied with eating and drinking, even so purify and make holy my heart and my life from aught else save Thy Love, and protect and preserve my soul from self-passions… Thus may the spirit associate with the Fragrances of Holiness and fast from everything else save Thy mention.”
(Abdu’l-Bahá, Star of the West, vol. 3, p. 305.)

Prayer and fast go hand-in-hand during the month Ala. We pray before we start fast, and before we break fast. At times, though, depending on where we are before sunrise or sunset, praying can be difficult. Therefore, I would like to introduce to those who have itouch, or iphone, the “Prayer Book” app. This app has an assortment of prayers for different occasions, but it can be particularly useful for fast. It is inconspicuous, and the prayers are wherever your hand helds are. (Which is like, everywhere, these days.) It doesn’t matter if you are at a gathering, eating dinner in a restaurant, or staying late at work.
Happy Fasting!

It’s one thing when you walk into a supermarket, and everything on the shelves is like 90% junk, that you shouldn’t be eating, but when companies go as far as false advertising… it’s very disturbing.

Since when is fruit drenched in corn syrup considered fresh? How can be something be healthy if one serving (1 cup) has 75mg of salt, 30g of sugar, and hardly any real nutritional value?
This here picture may be the most awkward ever taken of me, but let me tell you, I felt amazing after it was taken! Especially since I woke up congested this morning after embarking on a very guilty pleasure yesterday… tobacco.
Nasal irrigation has been practiced for centuries, and is very popular in places like India, but not as much so in the western world. My childs toy, tea pot looking device is actually a neti pot. For something that does such wonders… cleaning out all the mucus and what not from your sinuses, it’s actually quite simple.
Poor warm, distilled or pre-boiled water into your pot, put the sinus solution in the water, gently shake it, check the temperature of the water on say your wrist, or the top of your hand.. and lean over your bathroom sink and go to town. It is the weirdest feeling having a waterfall of water come out your nose!
However, I will say that is much more comfortable to do than constantly blowing your nose. Helps a lot when you are congested!

This past weekend (Saturday, February 13th) my family and I participated in the largest protest to take place in the history of Florida, Hands Across The Sand. This protest too place at more than 50 beaches around the state, planned by environmentalists, tourism-industry workers, beach lovers, and politicians who want to keep drilling rigs away from Florida shores.
